David Robinson gets light into impossible places

This story begins about two and an half years ago, when being given a tour of Red Bull’s generously stocked Equipment Pool, amongst the plethora of cameras and endless walls of lenses, photographer David Robinson was shown a custom Octocopter. Designed to carry such cameras as RED’s Scarlet, at a time when the only cameras flying around were GoPros.

The main thing about this piece is the muscle behind it, and it opened a lot of doors regarding what equipment could be used. David wanted to take the idea as far as he could right away, and he knew that a hot shoe flash just wouldn’t cut it since one of his favorite things to do is add powerful flashlight to the daylight already in the scene.

Why Ride Project: behind the scene

On November of 2015, photographer Lucho Vidales, videomaker Xué Gil and BMX rider Martin Postigo combined their passions without really knowing what would come out from it.
In the beginning, they were heading on a trip to shoot a series of BMX pictures with a medium format camera at different rare locations in between the cities of Granada and Malaga in Spain.

Then, just over a week before they were about to start their journey. On the evening of November 13th, the world was shaken once again by terrorists attacks in Paris. Amongst the victims that day at Ba-Ta-Clan was Mathias Dymarski ( BMX rider and friend of Martin) as well as his girlfriend Marie Lausch.

Red Hook Crit – Milan 2016

The Red Hook Criterium is the world’s premier track bike criterium, since 2008. With four spectacular events scheduled in Brooklyn, London, Barcelona and Milan, the series is unique in that it requires athletes to race multiple laps around a 1km (approx.) technical circuit on brakeless, fixed gear track bikes. Taking cues from international motorsport, athletes begin by competing in timed qualification rounds to establish grid positions for the main event. The finals, traditionally raced at night, are held in front of thousands of spectators at each destination.
