Red Bull Illume 2016 winners

The wait is over for the 5.645 photographers from around the world who entered Red Bull Illume, the world’s greatest action and adventure sports photography contest. On September 28, the Overall Winner, 11 Category Winners and Top 55 images have been unveiled at a spectacular ceremony held at The Art Institute of Chicago.

From the creators of The Art of Flight, Red Bull Media House presents The Fourth Phase, a snowboarding epic starring iconic athlete Travis Rice.

A gifted innovator, Rice has always held the keys to what’s possible, yet he still seeks more. While exploring the untapped backcountry of his native Wyoming with mentor Bryan Iguchi, Rice plots a 16,000-mile course to follow the hydrological cycle around the northern Pacific, where snow and ice create dreamlike landscapes on the towering mountains above.
On his journey, Rice is joined by several of snowboarding’s most innovative riders, including Mark Landvik, Eric Jackson, Bryan Iguchi, Pat Moore, Mikkel Bang, Jeremy Jones, Victor de Le Rue, Ben Ferguson and more.

Reef: life from the French coast with Arthur Bourbon

After showcasing our favorite images of Red Bull Illume semifinalists 2016 in the categories of New Creativity, Close Up, Enhance, Energy and Lifestyle, we continue picking up some of the best pictures in action and adventure sports. Meanwhile, a judging panel of 50 photo editors are selection 11 Category Winners and one Overall Winner, unveiled at the Red Bull Illume Winner Award Ceremony, which will be held on September 28th, 2016 in Chicago, USA.

From September 12, 2016 onwards and leading up to the ceremony, Red Bull Illume will reveal the highly anticipated Top 275 Semifinalist images via its Red Bull Illume Facebook page.

Red Bull Illume is the world’s greatest international photography contest dedicated to action and adventure sports. It showcases the most creative and captivating photography on the planet as art and aims to bring the public closer to the world of action sports.

Red Bull Illume Image Quest 2016 will be the fourth edition of the contest after 2007, 2010 and 2013. A judging panel of 50 photo editors goes through thousands of entries and eventually selects 11 Category Winners and one Overall Winner, unveiled at the Red Bull Illume Winner Award Ceremony, which will be held on September 28th, 2016 in Chicago, USA.

Simon Gruber: a flight life

Simon Gruber is, without any doubt, one of the strongest talents that Italy has right now. It’s an athlete screened beyond its borders, with a level of riding which has nothing to envy to the international snowboarding scene.

Matteo and Leo Fioravanti: Blue Oceans brothers

There’s nothing better than a good novel, a towel, a cold beer, feet on the warm sand and to sprawl on the beach of La Graviere surrounded by green water waves in a blue ocean. Our relax is interrupted by Leo and Matteo Fioravanti. Well! We shot the beer and we run home. We come back with recharged batteries and with the unmissable underwater case of Olaf Pignataro for the photos from the water! In fact the lunar shot of Leonardo is his, brought home challenging the close out of the famous beach of the French Landes. The others photos were taken by Paolo Poldo Testa.
